Project Update: Up And Running With HubPages
Setting up a HubPages account and getting some Hubs generating cash has been a mini-goal for me for nearly 2 months, but just like many other things on my to-do list, it kind of fell by the way side.
I found myself with some spare time on my hands this week, so I thought I’d tackle this little side project head on.
A hat tip should goto Karol of Ridiculously Extraordinary for this one with his article on how to make money with completely free traffic. I’d heard of HubPages with mixed results from a variety of sources, but his article is what put me onto taking it on as a mini-project back at the end of February.
My idea was to create several how-to videos and expose them on HubPages for some added traffic and hopefully some AdSense revenue.
If you link your hub pages account with your AdSense account they will automatically place AdSense ads throughout your content for you. The catch is that you get half and they get half, but that’s still quite a good deal when you think about it. Really I’m not going to be promoting these articles outside of submitting them to a few social media services.
My first article went live the other day and it was an expansion of my video tutorial of how to create a quick and dirty website logo.
I took the same video content and added more text into the article to give it context. I then also transcribed the exact instructions and added that to the article too.
All in all, it’s taken about 1 hour of my time and over time this article will rise in the Google rankings and provide a small amount of consistent ad revenue.
It’s only given me a few cents so far, but it’s enough to see the potential.

You might notice it’s optimized for a slightly different phrase than the video I posted on this blog. That’s because I didn’t want the two articles clashing – afterall they are essentially very different.
More work went into the HubPages article because that audience isn’t predisposed to the type of content I give out here on my blog. I assume a certain level of willingness to learn from you guys that I can’t necessarily take for granted with the random viewers that will see my HubPage.
If you’d like to know more about HubPages and a great strategy, check out Karol’s link at the top of this post.
I’ll let you know how I go with this over the coming months and I’ll even divulge a revenue report when there is enough information to collate.
Happy hubbing!

Good work, Josh! My Hub page even has a PR of 1 after a few months. It’s a great way of building that network around your main site.

Thanks Michelle
I’m hoping I’ll get the same sort of value out of it too – just another wait and see experiment! Can’t wait to see where it’s at in a couple of months.
I”ve been putting this off for ages.
