The Opportunity Of Company Blogs

The Opportunity Of Company Blogs

This post is actually a bit of a rant. I want to talk about opportunity of company blogs and I’m just going to riff instead of following my usual format. I hope you like :)

Hordes of new business’ taking a brave step every day and join the ranks of bloggers.

Blogging should be easy! It’ll be a piece of cake they say.

What a great way to promote my business!

People will be bashing down my door just to read volumes about my products.

I’ll just slap up some product information, that’s the easiest way to create content! Right?

Unfortunately, not a lot of companies actually “get” the blogging medium. Sure there are plenty of company blogs out there, but how many of them do you think are not aggressively trying to push their own agenda?

Constantly trying to sell affiliate programs, their own products, or advertising (even I’m guilty of this). All the while, forgetting about the reader, and forgetting about delivering something of actual tangible value.

I seem to see blogs like this cropping up more and more and I’m sick of it.

Companies especially can do more to provide unbiased information to their customers and potential customers, actually helping them with their problems instead of the standard press release style format that seems all too common.

I’m not saying “don’t sell” on your blog, but use it for what it was designed for: Reaching out to people (your paying customers!)

The funny thing is, companies today have an unparalleled opportunity to get honest customer feedback giving them a feel for the market at the same time.

And how many do you see taking advantage of it?

I say it’s time for companies to be more accountable for their blogs – put out some great content about the business (niche) they are in – and realise the opportunity that is staring them right in the face.

If a company is blogging, they owe it to their niche to step up. Don’t add to the noise.
