Figure Out Dozens Of Cheapskate Marketing Ideas In Less Than 10 Minutes
I wanted to share with you a technique I’ve been doing for figuring out cheapskate marketing ideas. I’ve been doing a lot of evaluating of new business ideas lately and have come up with a couple of promising endeavours that I’ll write about here soon.
Marketing is easily one of my weakest skills, which is why I have a whole section to learning it here on this site. Writing stuff out helps me learn because if I can articulate it and explain it to someone else, then I know I’ve understood the concept.
Having said that, the following technique is completely made up.
My Marketing Idea Generator
I needed a way to figure out lots of marketing ideas for test businesses so this process sort of grew out of that need. As such it’s probably all over the place and hopefully someone with some actual marketing prowess can put me on the straight and narrow and enlighten us all how it’s supposed to be done.
So without further ado, my sloppy cheapskate marketing technique is as follows:
Step 1
Write down as many places you can think of that your customer might visit, be, or otherwise interact with.
Step 2
For each of these places, write down as many ways to reach them that you can think of. These are your potential marketing ideas.
ie. My customer might be bored waiting in line at the supermarket, a way to reach them could be to advertise on those divider stick thingies that you use to separate your groceries from the people in front of you.
Step 3
Armed with this (hopefully) huge list of marketing ideas, mark off each one as either:
- Costing significant money to do
- Costing a small amount of money to do
Or, - Free to do.
Step 4
Do the free ones first, followed by the activities costing the smallest amount of money. You should have a budget to play with. I call it my drop dead amount, because it’s an amount I’m willing to spend marketing the idea before I let the idea die.
If you’re having some success, scale it up and do some of the bigger money ones, you’re onto a winner.
Any advice, tips, tuning of this process?
So that’s my process I’m using for fleshing out cheapskate marketing techniques. Do you have your own? Can you give me any advice? … I’m a marketing newbie, be gentle.
