Disclosing Myself: Now that's just sounds sick.

It’s a sad fact that people get sued while legitimately trying to help others out. But thanks to numerous laws (both in the US and internationally) now surrounding blogging, affiliate programs, and just generally trying to make money online we have a duty to disclose all the things that need disclaiming and disclaim all the things that need disclosing. Or something.

To make things simpler I came across a website today that gives away free professionally written generic disclaimer statements for any website.

Free Disclosure StatementThe service is called OurDisclaimer.com and it’s a brilliant concept.

Following the instructions on their site you construct a link which you can then simply place in the footer (check the footer of this page, you’ll see mine).

The link points to a script on OurDisclaimer.com like so:

http://ourdisclaimer.com/?i=codemyownroad.com

Simply replace “codemyownroad.com” with your website’s address and you have a link to an instant disclaimer statement which covers you should anyone get all legal on your ass.

I’m sure it’s not without faults and perhaps someone more legally well versed could point out other things we need to disclose on our websites?

But to me this is far and away better than anything I could have written.

Got a cool service to share? Send me an email with your link and I’ll look at doing a write up on it. Who knows, it may even end up in our collection of internet tools!

Good stuff. I must add this to my site.

  2. Yep, it’s definitely a must have – and just so easy – makes me wonder why I didn’t go searching for it earlier!

I just explained everything did was for the sole purpose of vacuuming your wallet, and let it go at that. I wrote an article on it, I think you were out of commission at that time.

  4. Haha, nice one Dave. I think at the time my brain had automatically filtered out all posts on disclosures because every blogger and his dog were doing them to get it all out of the way and in the open.

Definitely like your take on it though ;)
